In the quiet mornings of Chiang Mai, where incense drifts through temple gates and monks glide barefoot along stone paths, strange creatures await. Coiling up temple stairways, adorned in glittering glass and gilded scales, they watch us with wide, eternal eyes.

Are they dragons? Serpents? They seem fierce, even bizarre — yet they do not threaten. They guard.

These are Nāga — mythical beings from Buddhist and Hindu lore. Neither dragon nor snake, they are sacred guardians, protectors of temples and the Buddha within. They are said to ward off evil not with fire, but with calm vigilance, holding back the chaos of the world.

Intimidating at first glance, but their purpose is peace.
